What's on my desk

One of my favorites blog posts to read is a "Whats in my bag."  Second to that is a "Whats on my desk"  Since I just recently created a work nook in a corner of my mudroom, I thought it would be fun to show you what I have on my desk.

My desk/table is from IKEA. Its the 47" inch LINNMON Table top in birch effect.  I then paired it with the NIPEN table legs in white.  I like this system a lot.  You can pick and choose a variety of finishes and sizes and table legs.  I did not opt for the attached storage system, but you can also substitute out the legs on one side for the Alex Draw Unit or Alex Storage Unit.  (Not Shown in photos, but I am using the BORJE Chair as my desk chair)

The main component of my desk is my laptop.  I have the Macbook Pro 13".  I love this laptop because its super portable.  Sometimes I do wish I got the Macbook Air, but this still pretty light so I can travel easily with it and bring it back and forth to work if I want to.  I also like that the Pro has a card reader, which the Air does not.  Using a Mac, I can sync it to my iCloud and get all my photos, contacts, and calendars from my iPhone and iPad.

I have a few notebooks that I keep on one side of my desk.  The bottom book is the Lily Pulitzer 2014  17 Month Large Agenda in First Impressions Print.  Over that, I have a notebook from Crystal Faye.  You can't see it in the photo, but it says Eat Blog Love.  If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen it at some point.   Then over that notebook, I have two notebooks (this and this) from B is for Bonnie Designs.

Also on that little corner of my desk, is my cell phone (the iPhone 5S in a case from elago), my wallet (just because I was making travel arrangements for work and needed my cc) and a few lip glosses I just got and was photographing.

On the far left hand corner, I have a mirror from IKEA, and a used Diptyque candle cup filled with caramels.

This little white tray is from poppin.   I probably have about 4 of them in total.  They are super cheap ($9 a piece) and a great size to store items.  I am absolutely obsessed with poppin's desk accessories.    On the tray, I have a little trinket box from Target and a mercury glass jar that used to have the Volcano Candle from Capri Blue (my favorite!) in it.

The Blood Orange Mojito candle from Target smells amazing!  It is a great scent for summer and I am kind of addicted to blood orange scents.

On the far right hand corner, I have another tray (from Target) with another trinket box, my business cards, and a mercury glass cup filled with Le Pens and a pair of scissors from Poppin. I then have a Nate Berkus letter sorter, and this gold cosmetic case from Folli Follie that I store my camera in.

This trinket box stores paperclips, binder clips and other small odds and ends.

I love this weekly list/calendar notepad (similar) because it doubles as a mousepad and I can keep my to-dos out on my desk.

My desk doesn't have under storage/drawers, so I got this cart from Ikea.  I keep it under the window to the right of my desk.  On the top section I have my stapler and tape dispenser (both from Poppin) note cards in a sequined case and an old Glossy Box from last year that was a special edition collaboration with Dallas Shaw.

And congratulations to the winner of the Derma MD Skincare giveaway, Semirah Dolan!  Your goodies are on their way!

April Favorites

What A Tease, Backcomb in a Bottle, Big Sexy Hair - I love big hair with lots of volume.  When I bought this I was looking for a texturizing spray and ended picking this up instead.  I just spray this on my roots, give my hair a little fluff and I have volume all day.  I can then just refluff during the day for a quick refresh of volume.

Cherry Blossom Tinted Lip Balm, Figs & Rouge - I got this in a Glossybox a while ago and didn't use it at first, but now have been using it daily. It conditions and gives me a pretty cherry tint to my lips.

Shea Butter Lip Balm in Pixi Pink, Pixi - I have really been liking tinted lip blame lately!  I ordered this because I liked the packaging and ended up really liking this product.  Like the Figs & Rouge balm, it conditions and adds great tint.  I ended up getting these in 2 more colors.

Creaseless Cream Shadow in RSVP, Benefit Cosmetics - I have not stopped using this since buying it back in March.  I usually always use neutral colors on my eyes.  This is a great base that adds just a little shimmer and lasts throughout the day.

Whiplash Eyelash Curler, Crave Naturals - I will never use another eyelash curler.  This lets me get right up to my lid without pinching.  It is AMAZING!

Bottom Lash Mascara, Clinique - I never used mascara on my bottom lashes until recently.  I like that this has a tiny little brush that just gets the mascara right up in there without ending up all over my face.

Vitamin C Microdermabrasion, The Body Shop - This is the first microdermabrasion I have used so I don't have much to compare it to, but I really like it.  It is not harsh at all, and leaves my skin soft and smooth.

Dark Spot Correcting Serum, Yes To Grapefruit - This is probably one of the best serums I have used for hyperpigmentation.  It does leave a slight film, so I only use it at night, but within one use I notice a difference.

Sunday Lusts

1. Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup, Estee Lauder - Every so many months I get the urge to try out a new foundation.  I have been using Revlon's Nearly Naked for a while, and really like it, but wouldn't mind trying something new.  I have heard nothing but good things about this long lasting foundation.

2. Ambient Lighting Palette, Hourglass - I wanted to pick up this palette last year when Hourglass released it as a Limited Edition.  Now that its part of their permanent collection, I need to have it!

3. Bobbi Brown Blush in Apricot - I love bright blushes and have been eyeing this one for a while.

4. Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain Trio - I have been on a lip product buying spree lately!  I really don't need another lip product but I am really intrigued by these.  I have many stains, but not ones that are creamy.

5.  Shea Butter Lip Balm in Natural Rose, Pixi Beauty - I LOVE LOVE LOVE these balms.  These have replaced all other tinted lip balms for me.  They are better then the Revlon Lip Butters, better than the Loreal Colour Riche Balms.  They only come on 6 colors and I already have 3, but that isn't stopping me from wanting more.  I will probably pick up the three colors I don't have, but if I could only get one, it would be Natural Rose

6.  Prêt-à-Powder, Bumble and Bumble - I typically don't like dry shampoos that don't spray, but this one is a multiple use product.  It acts a dry shampoo, a style extender and a volumizer.

7. Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Lips & Cheeks in 02 Rose Frivole, Yves Saint Laurent - YSL are the creme de la creme of lip products.  In general the packaging is gorgeous, the formulas are amazing and they feel so luxurious.  With that said, this packaging is not my favorite of theirs, but I do love this color and like that it s two in one.  I probably wouldn't use it on my cheeks, but it would be great to have in a pinch.

8. Glow Tonic Beauty Elixir, Pixi Beauty - This exfoliating facial glow tonic helps tone, firm and tighten the skin while removing dead skin cells for healthier looking skin.  That just sounds so easy.  Sign me up!

Derma MD Skincare

Disclaimer: Products mentioned were sent to me from DermaMD for the purpose of review.  All opinions expressed are my own.

I was recently contacted by Derma MD to try out some of their skincare products.  Since I have been obsessed with skincare lately I jumped at the chance to try out some new products.

Founded in 2001, Derma MD develops their products using the most advanced ingredients and incorporating these specific ingredients at the highest percentages and most effective concentration levels available in the industry. Each of their products specifically focus on target areas for which they are needed to correct specific problems, giving optimal result.

Wasabi Cleanser is designed to remove surface oil, bacteria and debris without stripping the skin of its natural oils.  It helps to control the acne "p" bacteria, leaving the skin free of blemishes, as it deeply and gently cleanses the skin.

As much as I enjoy trying new skincare products, I am always hesitant about switching out my cleanser. I was really intrigued at first by this because of the smell.  It has a mild eucalyptus-type scent, which I'm pretty sure is the leaf extract and wasabi root.  While I have used it less then a week, so far I really like it.  It cleans well without stripping my skin.  I have also used it without first removing my make-up and it takes everything off at once . . . no extra products, no extreme rubbing!  The back label also explains that this cleanser can be used for shaving to reduce razor bumps and sooth the skin. I haven't used it yet for shaving, but I will definitely be trying it for that!

Organic Illuminating Serum contains vitamin C to increase tightening, reduce appearance of fine lines, hyper pigmentation, lightens dark spots, softens deep furrows leaving skin with a more luminous, smoother, younger looking appearance.

I have only used this a few times since receiving it, but even after the first application, my skin just looked better. It looked younger and a little more radiant.  I also liked that it didn't leave a film on my face like some serums do.

Lightening & Brightening Cre'me contains a proprietary formulation of Kojic Acid (from powder) bearberry, mulberry extracts and licorice root to lighten and brighten and dark pigmented areas on the body or face.

This is another product that pulled me in by its smell.  You can definitely smell the licorice root.  I normally hate licorice but this was more minty and just smelled good.  I haven't used it enough to notice too much of a difference, but I love that its not a mask like other products for hyper-pigmentation.  This is a true cream that you blend into your skin twice a day.  Its light weight and blends into the skin very well.  This is one product that I see myself using a lot, because it contains natal products and is so easy to use.

Daytime Moisturizer with SPF 50 is a silky daytime moisturize that provides 50 times your natural protection from the sun, blocking a very broad spectrum of UVA and UVB rays. Formulated in an oil free moisturizing base. It is non-comedogenic, fragrance-free and formulated for all skin types, including sensitive, oily and post treatment.

I really like that this has an SPF 50.  SPF is super important to begin with, but if you are someone like me that gets breakouts, you really want to make sure you are using an SPF every single day,  The suns rays can penetrate any blemishes you have and cause them to darken resulting in hyper-pigmentation.  Trust me when I tell you how difficult it is and what a process it is to combat dark spots, so if you can prevent them you definitely want to.

This is also a very lightweight moisturizer.  The consistency is kind of a whipped cream, which I really like.  And again, with the SPF,  I am going to be using this all summer long, and throwing it in my bag when I go out to the pool or head to the beach!

Lip Plump hydrates and condition lips while plumping and reducing lines.

Encapsulated hyaluronic acid spheres keep lips hydrated and moist, while peptides increase collagen to provide fullness to lips.

Normally I can not use lip plumbers.  The ingredients don't agree with me, my lips end up on fire and I look like I just got stung in the lips by a bee.  This is not that product!  In the tube, the color doesn't look like anything I would really use, but it is actually pretty sheer and has a slight shimmer to it.  I think it would be great over another lipstick.  You can kind of feel it work, but not to the extend that I have experienced in the past.  Its more of a subtle sensation and afterwards my lips actually did look plumped (and not in the a bumble bee just stung me kind of way).

The folks at Derma MD were so super nice and generous for sending me these products.  They asked me my skin concerns and recommended products based on that.  I also love that their products use a lot of natural ingredients.

Derma MD can be purchased directly through their website.  But don't order just yet!  Derma MD is coming to Hautelook this Sunday!!  (May 4th)  If you don't know what Hautelook is, its a member of the Nordstrom family and offers both private, limited-time sale events and an ongoing catalog of the top fashion and lifestyle brands at prices up to 75% off. If you are not already a member, you can sign up HERE.  And be on the lookout for their sale staring Sunday, May 4th on Hautelook

Bag Envy

If I had to choose just one accessory to use ever it would definitely be a purse or handbag.  I probably have more bags then anything else, so many that they are taking up storage under my bed, in my closet and in my basement.  While I probably have too many to count it doesn't stop me from buying more or envying a few high priced handbags.

Here are my top crush worthy bags!
