Quote of the Week

Empties #1

I tend to buy a lot of products . . . probably too many products.  I usually end up with a lot more than I need and end up giving some away or letting them expire and then tossing them.  (I know, I know! That is extremely wasteful)  I tried my hand at a Project X Pan but that didn't get me very far.  Actually, it didn't get me anywhere at all.

In it effort to try to use up more of the products that I have I thought I would start empties posts, listing all the products I have used up and doing a small review on them; what I thought about it, how I used it, would I buy it again.  With that in mind, I saved up all my empties over the past couple of months.  I am surprised and quite pleased at how many products I have been able to use up. It's actually become a bit gratifying to see how many empty products I can collect.

A lot of these are more beauty products than cosmetics, but this has really given me the push I needed to start using up some of the products I would otherwise be wasting.

1. Philosophy's Squishy Red Fishy - I bought this at Ulta last year and it doesn't seem to be available any more.  It smelled just like Swedish Fish, which was why I bought it in the first place.  I had never used a Philosophy body wash before (this is actually a 3 in one - shampoo, body wash and bubble bath, but I used it strictly as a body wash) but did like it.  The bottle was HUGE (I think this may have been the only size available when I bought it) and it last me about 9 months before running out.  I did kind of get sick of the scent after a while, but would repurchase if it was available in a smaller size.

2. Tresemme Mega Firm Control Tres Two Freeze Hair Spray - This is my go to hairspray.  It does the job without making my hair shift.  I have probably repurchased this at least a dozen times.

3. Batiste Proud & True Brit Dry Shampoo - I have mentioned this product before.  Batiste is one of my favorite brands of dry shampoo and I really like this particular scent.

4. Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deeeep Conditioner - I have been using 3 minute miracle since I was about 12 (at least).  My mother used to use it and I would always steal some because I loved the way it smelled.  It really does miracles in just 3 minutes.

5. Dove Advanced Clear Tone Antiperspirant - This evens the skin tone under your arms.  I think it works as my underarms were a bit discolored before using this.

6 & 7. Yes to Grapefruit Brightening Facial Towelette &  Yes to Tomatoes Blemish Clearing Facial Towelettes - I love the entire Yes To product line.   I had used the Yes to Cucumber Towelettes many times before trying the tomato.  As I have blemish prone skin, I figured it couldn't hurt.  While I can't say they cleared up my skin, I feel like they helped contribute to my overall skin care.  I then tried the Grapefruit because I love the scent.  Again, I can't say they necessarily brightened my skin but they took all my make-up off and smelled really good.

8. Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes - Normally make-up wipes are pretty much all the same and I can't say much about them.  However, I just didn't like these.  The towel itself was rather thin and difficult to rub.  I ended up having to use several wipes just to get my make-up off and often had to rub my skin raw.

9. Giovanni D:tox Facial Cleansing Towelettes - I picked these up on my way to Hyannis last summer. They were a small compact size to throw in my purse. They were inexpensive and worked fine.  The towel was a bit thin but not as thin as the Josie Maran wipes.

10.  Proactiv Renewing Cleanser - Proactiv is the only cleanser I can use that clears my breakouts and keeps keeps my skin blemish free.

11 & 12. Clean & Clear Advantage 3 in 1 Exfoliating Cleanser & Clean & Clear Daily Cleanser - Clean & Clear is a good alternative to Proactiv.  I will often buy it if I run out of Proactiv and can't get to the kiosk.  It works well for a bit but after a month or so I do need to go back to Proactiv.

13.  JASON Purifying Tea Tree Pure Oil - Tea Tree Oil is a great spot treatment.  While I like the tea tree line at the Body Shop, I will often pick up any tea tree oil from the natural foods section at the supermarket.  I do like the JASON brand and love their Revitalizing Vitamin E Creme.

14.  Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum and Stay Clear Cream -  I got this in my February GlossyBox and used the entire sample.  It was a good alternative to the Proactiv Repairing Treatment.

15. Urban Decay De Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray - I love Urban Decay's setting spray and continuously repurchase them.  I spray this once on my face before applying my makeup and once again after I have applied everything to set it and seal it for the day.

16. Laura Mercier Mineral Powder Foundation - I used to only wear mineral foundation and first tried this foundation after using Bare Minerals for years.  I love the finish and coverage this gives.  I stopped using it only because I wanted to go back to a liquid foundation, but now that I have used up the jar, I really want to go back to it.

17. NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base - I repurchased this weeks before running out because I was so afraid to go without it.  It is holy grail for me and the only eyeshadow base that keep my shadow on my lids.

18.  NARS Concealer - I really like using a stick concealer.  It is easy to apply and this is pretty creamy so you can easily blend it if you want to and the color custard matches me perfectly.

19.  Milani HD Advanced Concealer - When I first got this I was religiously using Garnier's Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Roller and nothing else.  I had just thrown this in a drawer and not given it much thought until the day I ran out of the Garnier roller. I like this so much better than the Garnier and while I haven't repurchased yet, I probably will next time I need an under-eye concealer.

20.  Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! Mascara - This was my go to mascara before I discovered Estee Lauder's Sumptuous Extreme mascara.  The two are quite similar, although the Estee Lauders gives my lashes just a bit more volume.  I do love that this is available in the smaller .3 oz size.  I like to refresh my mascara more often than I run out of the full tube, so the little tubes are perfect.

That is it for now!  It was probably a few too many products; I think next time I won't let that many add up.  Now that I can clear out my empties bin, I can start filling it up again.  In fact, I already have two projects to toss in there.

Kate Spade Saturday

Kate Spade New York launched a brand new line this past Wednesday.  Saturday is their spin on casual, "channeling the carefree spirit of the weekend and bringing it to every day of the week with smart silhouettes, honest fabrics, and a sense of spontaneity." It is like Kate Spade's more causal, hipper younger sister.  While we all love Kate Spade, Saturday is just that extra dose of fun.  And what it even better is that Saturday is a bit more affordable then it's older sister.

Kate Spade Saturday's signature print is  black and white zig zag, a fun alternative to the typical signature initials so many lines use.

Kate Spade opened the first brick and mortar Kate Spade Saturday store in Toyko earlier this month.  The brand was developed with Japanese consumers in mind with a total of 5 stores planned to open in Japan by June.  The brand is sold online here in the US at www.Saturday.com.

While black & white zig zag is KS Saturday's signature print, yellow seems to be the line's signature color.  The entire site is "dress in yellow" and they even features a Yellow Shop.

One of the most fun features of Saturday.com is their custom weekender bag.  You can design your very own bag by choosing among ten different colors for each part of the bag.

Kate Spade Saturday dresses you for everyone's favorite day of the week while bringing that comfort and laid back style to you every day.

In typical Kate Spade fashion, Saturday's accessories are so lust worthy.  I mean, how completely perfect for Spring are these canvas sneakers???

Check out Saturday.com for their entire line, including an array of jewelry all priced under $50.  The entire collection is so fun and casual, I can't wait to watch this line as it develops.

March Birchbox (oh and February too)

I realize that I haven't done a Birchbox unboxing in FOREVER!  I have been a little ehhh about my subscription boxes in general lately so I haven't really wanted to post on them. Birchbox has stepped up their game over the past couple of month and I have received products that I have really wanted to try.

I haven't been able to post on my February Birchbox, so today, I want to show you both my February box and March box into one post.  FIRST, MY MARCH BOX . . .

I received the follow products in my March box:

Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream Cream

Benefit Stay Don't Stray Primer
Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum
Caldrea Body Lotion
Madewell for Birchbox Nail Emery Board

Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream - Made in the U.S. with eco-friendly ingredients, the non-drying formula gives you a mighty close shave without leaving legs devoid of moisture. And, unlike its distant peers, it’s designed not to foam up: instead, the rich lotion is chock full of organic and natural botanicals that soften skin.  Full Size, $20/150 ml

I haven't used this yet, but I got a blueberry scent.  I don't typically like anything blueberry, but this is very light.  I don't mind it at all.

Benefit Stay Don't Stray PrimerThis little gem is a foolproof way to ensure that your undereye concealer and eyeshadows stay put from morning to night (to late late night). It comes in one surprisingly versatile shade that brightens underneath and above the eye. The lightweight formula blends in easily and won't clog the delicate skin around the eyes. Full Size, $26/10 ml

I have never used Benefit's Stay Don't Stray, but I love the brand and very excited about this.  I'll probably throw this in my travel bag as the size is great for a weekend or a few days away.

Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum - In our quest to eradicate zits we’ve tried our fair share of pimple-busting products—with mixed results. This radical serum may very well be The One. The doctor developed formula penetrates the skin, going straight to the source to eliminate trapped bacteria, dirt, and oil. It gets the job done quickly and gently, without irritating or over-drying your skin. Bonus: The serum also tackles surface scars and hyperpigmentation. Full Size, $35/15 ml

I had never used evologie until I received a similar sample in my February Glossybox. I used this serum on a breakout and while it didn't exactly wow me it did help dry it out a bit.  It does have tea tree oil in it, which you can smell right away.

Caldrea Body Lotion -  A good body lotion is hard to find. Too oily, too sticky, too thick—the list goes on and on. Lucky for us, Caldrea has been perfecting its body care line for a decade (yes, a decade!). This nourishing body lotion comes in three signature scents: Aloe Water Apricot, a modern white musk with floral notes; Tea Olive Lime, a green citrus scent with vanilla and orchid; and Coconut Fig Leaf, which is fresh and exotic with top notes of white fig, plum, and coconut.  Full Size, $22/8 oz

I love Caldrea lotions and think these scents sound delicious.  I haven't yet used them but I am very excited to try the tea olive lime.

Madewell for Birchbox Nail Emery Board - Inspired by Madewell’s new spring collection, which features sun-ready prints and patterns like this one, the emery board is as practical as it is pretty. The double-sided nail care essential is perfect for daily maintenance and as a quick fix for snags or breaks. Full Size, $5

I can't have enough emery boards.  I love that this comes with a little sleeve.

AND NOW MY FEBRUARY BOX . . .

I received the following products in my February Box:

Skin&Co Bagnodoccia Body Gel
Color Club Fiesta Collection
Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips
twistband™ Headband Collection
Ghirardelli Milk & Caramel Square

Skin&Co Bagnodoccia Body Gel - Our shower had very little in common with sunny Sicily until we tried these delightful body washes. Lightly scented with zesty ingredients sourced from Italy, Skin&Co Roma’s gels work into a rich lather that purifies skin with moisturizing olive oil and plant extracts aplenty. Full Size, $17.50/8.45 fl oz.

The sample size was quite generous on this.  It is a full 2 oz so I think I am going to save this for travel.

Color Club Fiesta Collection - The color pros at Pantone would approve of these must-have shades—and we couldn’t agree more. Universally flattering on all skin tones, each hue is daring, but not so out-there that we can’t wear it in the office or to dinner with Grandma. Full Size, $8

The picture doesn't really do this color any justice.  I got it in the color wild cactus and it is so gorgeous.  I typically only wear traditional/classic colors on my nails, but this is such a beuatiful color and I really like Color Club's polishes.

Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips - Discover the secret passed from nursing mothers to make-up artists. Originally created for new mothers facing sore nipples from breastfeeding, Dr. Lipp’s ultra hydrating, healing formula later gained a rep as the ultimate lip gloss, primer and multipurpose balm among savvy London makeup artists. Full Size, $14.50/15 ml

I have mixed feeling about this product.  The product itself is amazing.  It does what it is supposed to to condition lips, cuticles, feet, even nipples (hence the name).  In theory this little tube would be absolutely amazing to tote in my purse and be able to use it on my lips and cuticles.  My problem is the packaging.  The product itself is so thick, that I have a very difficult time dispensing it.  Its as thick as bag balm so I barely get it out of the tube.

twistband™ Headband Collection - We never seem to have a headband when we need one, like those times we’re trying to salvage a bad hair day or running on a treadmill with sweaty bangs. Happily, these hip elastic bands are remedying the situation for good. Perhaps the most versatile hair accessory ever, they look equally awesome paired with your workout gear or a sweet sundress. This six-pack comes with a variety of fun colors—from orange to turquoise—to match every mood and outfit. Full Size, $20/Set of 6 bands.

I love these elastic ribbons so I was very excited to received a headband in my Birchbox.  It is a super cute way to keep my hair out of my face

Ghirardelli Milk & Caramel Square -As Mary Kate and Ashley, Simon and Garfunkel, and Mickey and Minnie would probably attest, it takes two to make a thing go right. Enter our latest Birchbox Find: Ghirardelli’s melt-in-your-mouth milk chocolate squares filled with velvety caramel. The individually-wrapped squares are perfect for snacking, and each is just under 75 calories. If you can be convinced to share, they make thoughtful treats for fellow chocolate-lovers.  Full Size, $4.25/5.32 oz

DELICIOUS!

What did you get in your Birchbox this month (or last)?

If you haven't heard the news, Google has announced that they will be terminating Google Reader as of July 1, 2013.  While you can still follow tesoribelle.com through Google Friend Connect (for now???), you can also follow via Bloglovin (a similar online reader to Google Reader), FacebookTwitter, Google+.  AND if you are on bloglovin, leave your link below so I can follow you!

Quotes of the Week

Sunday Lusts

Sunday Lusts 3.17.2013

1. Sumptuous Extreme Waterproof, Estee Lauder - I received a tube of the non-waterproof version in my January Glossybox and love it.  I haven't stopped using it and will soon need a new tube.

2. Eyelet Top, J. Crew - Nothing screams spring more than eyelet and I love this deep aubergine.

3. Tiffany Smart Zip Wallet - This is the perfect solution for when you are running errands or heading out for the night and you just want to grab your wallet, cell phone and go.

4. Ella Rose Gold earbuds, Frends - I featured the over the ear version in a Lusts post last year and think the earbuds would be a lot more portable.

5. Hayworth Upholstered Bench, Pier 1 Imports - I am about 99% complete with the redesign of my bedroom and just want to get a small bench for the foot of my bed.  I love this because it matches my new headboard without being too matchy matchy with the color.

6. MadMen Collection, Estee Lauder - I love the neutral pinks of this collection, not to mention the gorgeous pucci-esque compact!

Outside Oasis

With Spring around the corner and the weather becoming milder, most find themselves outdoors, or at least longing to be outdoors. Whether you are entertaining, or just enjoying an afternoon cup of tea and a book, no one wants to stay indoors when it is nice out.  I love the idea of bringing your living space outside and creating a relaxing oasis in the yard (or balcony).  While I would love any of these in my backyard, the balcony in the second photo is my fave!

February Favorites

I have a lot of favorites to share with you for February.  I am kind of cheating though because I didn't do a January favorites so some of these products may be from January.  I am still loving them though so I really wanted to share.

1. Mario Badescu Drying Cream - I have been using this overnight on all my problem areas and my skin has been so much smoother and even toned.

2. Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes - I go through a lot of cleansing wipes and am indifferent about most.  These not only remove all traces of make-up (I only have to use one wipe to remove the day) but they tone the skin and have a great light coconut scent.

3 & 4. Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy Damage & Hair Color Repair Shampoo and Conditioner - I have a sensitive scalp and was using head and shoulders a few times a month to treat it.  I had run out of shampoo for color treated hair and thought I would give this a try, "killing 2 birds with one stone."  It works so well to calm my scalp.  I use this every other shampoo (about once a week).  The last time I had my hair colored I didn't spend the next 3 days tearing my scalp apart scratching.

5. OPI Avoplex Exfoliating Cuticle Treatment - I rub this into my cuticles a couple of times a week.  It smells really nice and doesn't leave my nails/fingers super greasy.

6. OPI DoubleDuty Dual Sided Pusher - This is the best cuticle pusher I have ever used.  The edges are slightly sharp like a blade so it really pushes through any excess cuticle.

7. Julep Nail Color in Ginger - I did not skip my February Julep Maven box mainly for this color.  It is an absolutely gorgeous sparkly holographic beige.  I don't think I have stopped wearing it since I got it  When it is not on my fingers, it is on my toes.

8. Julep Eyelash Curler - This was a "extra" in my February Julep Maven box.  I had never used an eyelash curler like this before but haven't stopped using it.  I get a much closer curl than with a traditional eyelash curler without pinching my lid.

9. YSL Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain in #12 Coril Fauve - I am really into lip stains lately.  This one is quite pigmented and gives a lovely bright pink color that is not too bright for daytime or the office.

10. Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer - This covers up my under eye circles nicely without creasing.

11. Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara - I got this deluxe sample in my January Glossybox and have almost used it up.  It has become my new favorite mascara and makes my lashes even fuller and longer than Benefit They're Real.

12. NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder - Although I find this to have a strange odor it sets my foundation nicely and gets my makeup a nice finish that lasts.

13. Urban Decay Naked Flushed Palette - I am not a huge fan of the Urban Decay Naked Palettes, but really love this.  It is really convenient as it has a bronzer, a blush and a highlighter all in one pan, making it easy in the morning as I don't have to grab multiple products.  I like that the bronzer is not super pigmented so it works great for subtle contouring and the blush is a perfect pink for me.  The blush is a bit pigmented so I do have to use a light hand but the color works well with my complexion.

14. Real Techniques Stippling Brush - I prefer this brush over any other stippling brush I own.  The bristles are shorter making it easier to apply my foundation.  I really like the Real Techniques brushes in general.  They are relatively inexpensive and are a pretty decent quality.

What products have you been loving lately?
