October GlossyBox

I received my GlossyBox last week.  It seems like GlossyBox USA is finally falling into a schedule.  For the first time I was billed the same time this month as I was last month (on the 10th) and received by box about 10 days later.

This month's box was themed Spa Luxe.

GlossyBox delievers a unique experience of indulgences this month, ensuring you moment of beautiful, pure relaxation.  Break away from the daily grind and immerse yourself iin a luxurious array of treatments designed to refresh and rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit.  The combination of products, essential for a pampering Spa Luxe experience, are ideal for creating a send of well-being and the ultimate beauty oasis.

Here is what I received Alessandro Pedix Heel Rescue Balm, Alterna Bamboo Luminous Shine Mist, Carol's Daughter Shea Souffle, Heartland Fragrances Exfoliating Loofa Soap, and Modelco Lip Dou Lipstick and Ultra Shine Lip Gloss.

Alessandro Pedix Heel Rescue Balm - A perfect foot-care aid for dry, chapped feet imported exclusively from Germany.  When used regularly, the rich cream with MarinaVital complex provides lasting protection against calluses.  Full Sized (Pictured) $18.50/100ml

Six months into GlossyBox and they have already begun to recycle products.  I already received this product in my July GlossBox (only 3 boxes ago).  It is a nice everyday foot balm to maintain soft feet.  If your looking for something to soften hard heels, this isn't going to do that job.

As in July, I received a 30 ml sample size. Due to the price of the full size product, this sample is valued at $5.55.

ALTERA Bamboo Luminous Shine Mist - An eco -certified shine mist made with Indian gooseberry and organic bamboo that controls frizz and flyaways.  It is a brilliant and weightless gloss for any hair type.  Full Sized (Pictured) $22.00/4oz

This was a miss for me.  While it smells good, it did little for me to control frizz or add shine

I received a .85oz sample size. Due to the price of the full size product, this sample is valued at $4.68.

Carol's Daughter, Shea Souffle - A superbly rich and fast absorbing daily moisturizer containing Shea butter, Cocoa butter, and Jojoba oil to help you reach your skin's optimal softness.  This shea souffle is non-greasy and free of parabens, mineral oil and artifical colors. Full Sized (Pictured) $20.00/8oz

I was so excited to see this in my GlossyBox this month.  This is a super rich cream that not only smells great, but works great at softening my skin.  I have been using  this on my dry elbows since I received it and today my elbows are soft and smooth.

The sample I received is just half the size of the full size product (4oz) making it a $10 value.

Heartland Fragrances Exfoliating Loofa Soap - A truly unique hand-poured loffa soap encased in gentle glycerin provides the perfect blend of moisture and exfoliation.  This soap is designed to increase circulation and is great or exfoliating.  Use on rough dry areas.  Full Sized (Pictured) $8.00/6oz

I was a little hesitant to use this has I have not used a bar soap in years.  I was also afraid the loofah was going to hurt.  While it does feel a little stiff on the skin it really exfoliates very well.  I get little bumps on the back of my arms that are now practically gone.  I will definatly be purchasing this.  I received the blood orange (one of my favorite scents);however they come in tons of different varieties.

I received a full sized bar (an $8 value)

ModelCo Lip DUO LipstiModelCo Lip DUO Lipstick & Ultra Shine Lip Gloss - Exclusive to GLOSSYBOX, a ultimate pairing in lip colour - a flawless, long-lasting lipstick & an intense beaming gloss.  Each may be worn separately or layered for an individually tailored hue. Full Sized (Pictured) $39.00/Lipstick .13oz Lipgloss .07oz

I don't usually even open the lipglosses I get in subscription boxes, only because I already have so many lip products that I like to give the glosses I get to friends and family.   This particular duo really intrigued me because not only does it have two great colors, but the base contains a mirror on the side eliminating the need to carry a compact Perfect, right??  Wrong!  While it is a great concept, it is poorly executed.  Both applicators are attached to the base; the same base the mirror is attached to so you can't apply the lipstick or lipgloss and look in the mirror at the same time.  Kind of pointless!  The colors are very pretty and ones that I would wear on a regular basis.  And while the mirror is lost on me, it does eliminate the need to carry a separate lipgloss and a lipstick.

I received a full size product making this a $39.00 value.

If I were to purchase the full sizes of all the products featured in my October GlossyBox it would total $107.50.  Given the sizes of each of these samples, my October GlossyBox  is a $67.23 value.

Hurricane Sandy Wreaking Havoc

Hurricane Sandy is slamming the East Coast today, so I am home.  My boss rarely closes the office so I was surprised when he called me.  (I only wish he called about 45 minutes earlier before I was showered, dressed and heading out the door!)  I was actually looking forward to a quiet day in the office.  My assistant had already called me earlier this morning to say she wouldn't be in, and I figured many others would do the same which would leave a relatively quiet day to get some much needed work off my to do list.  I guess Mother Nature had different plans for me today.

With a (fake) snow day, I'm stuck inside!  I could be doing that "much needed work off my to do list" but there are so many other distractions!

So far, I am catching up on my DVR and On Demand shows.  I have finished the last 3 episodes of 666 Park Avenue.  It is definitely one of my favorite new shows of the fall season line-up.  It has suspense without being too scary.  (unlike American Horror Story: Asylum that I can't watch when it is dark out)  Next up; last night's episode of Once Upon a Time and Revenge.

Also on the agenda for today's fake snow day, a manicure.  Red nail polish used to be a staple for me and I have been noticing so many beautiful scarlet hues, that I'm pulling out my all time favorite red, Chanel Le Vernis Nail Color Rouge Fatal 487.  While Rouge Fatal is discontinued, it can still be found HERE.  Dragon 475 and Lotus Rouge 455 are also great Chanel reds.

I'm also hoping to start my October GlossyBox unboxing and review.  This month was just as spectacular as previous months, so check back in a couple of days to see what I received!

I also have a stack of magazines that I could catch on.  I keep buying them and throwing them in a pile to read later, but the problem is later doesn't usually come until the season is over!

If all else fails, I suppose I could get some work done.  Although, if I had a home office like this no amount of distractions would hinder my productivity.

If your on the East Coast and stuck at home,  what are you doing with your fake snow day??

Stud Earrings

I am a sucker for big over the top earrings.  But as much as I like big earrings sometimes you just need a smaller more understated stud.  Studs add just a small hidden detail to a look and are often essential when wearing other statement pieces (less is more ladies).

Since I wear glasses to work, I stay clear of big chunky earrings during the day and opt for most subtle pieces.  Since I also lose studs as fast as I buy them I tend to purchase relativly inexpensive earrings.

Here are some great pairs (most of which are under $25!)

Pieces Bleur Earstuds, ASOS, $10.55

Skull Glam Studs, Glint and Gleam, $8

Gold Vermeil Diamond CZ Crown Stud Earrings, Overstock Jeweler, $24.99

Cocoa Twist Studs , Baublebar, $24

Sidewinder Studs , Stella & Dot, $29

Sunday Lusts

Mirror Tray, Dwell Studios

iPad Mini, Apple

Starry Eyes Liquid Eyeshadow, Charlotte Ronson

Week in Photos

Muller FrutUp Luscious Lemon Yogurt - I have never really liked yogurt, until I discovered Muller's Corner Choco Balls Yogurt last month.  Then I tried the FrutUp Luscious Lemon Yogurt and I am hooked!  This is like lemon mousse, just like the corner choco balls, I feel like I am eating dessert for breakfast!

Skeleton Jar Holder, Yankee Candle - I hate over the top holiday decorations, but love just small little accents to here and there to decorate.  This skull candle holder was 25% off at Yankee Candle last week, so I had to pick it up.

I went to a Renaissance Faire last Sunday.  I had never been to one, and it was definitely an experience!  Set in the woods in Carver, Massachusetts, it was a perfect fall day.  I took this photo with no filter as the sun was shining through an opening in the trees.  The sun's ray gave it a kind of halo effect.

Apple Cider Sangria - Sangria is my favorite drink of summer.  Jessica at How Sweet It Is brings the summer staple into the fall with this apple cider sangria.  I can not wait to try it out!

Is the ceiling and walls of this old theater not gorgeous?!?!

Influenster VoxBox Review

I received the fall Beauty Bloggers VoxBox from Influenster last week.   Influenster is a free to join online community of members who give opinions on various products.  As a contributing member of Influenster, you get the chance to share your knowledge and know-how with other like-minded people. One way is through testing products sent in the VoxBox.

I received 7 products (and one coupon) that include NYC New York Color® IndividualEyes Custom Compact, Kiss® Ever Pro Lashes Starter Kit, Bath & Body Works® Mini Candle, EBOOST®, Goody ® Simple Styles Spin Pin, Not Your Mother's® Kinky Moves TM Curl Defining Hair Cream and Vitabath® Fragrance Mist.

NYC New York Color® IndividualEyes Custom Compact in Union Square (Retails for $4.99) - According to the enclosed card "This all-in-one compact comes with everything you need for a complete eye look: primer, illuminator, applicator and complementing shadows.  With four colors, specially coordinated to intensify and enhance your eye color, you can even create a look as individual as you are.  Make your eyes pop!

Union Square is created for Brown Eyes and is the exact colors that I normally go for - beiges, browns and plums.  The shadow itself was okay.  The plum is the only color that I found to be very pigmented.  I would have preferred the darker brown to have a little more color payoff.   I found the eye primer to be very comparable to higher end brandsI have extremely oily eyelids so shadow does not stay on me for very long.  This primer worked very well to matify my eyelids and make my shadow last throughout the day.  I even used this with my everyday cream shadow and it lasted hours longer that with my department store base.  I also really liked the illluminator.  Since it is a cream I was able to easily apply with my fingertips to the inner corners of my eyes.

For $4.99 I would definitely purchase this product.  Since is includes everything you need in one palette it would be great for easy travel.

Kiss® Ever Pro Lashes Starter Kit (Retails for $5.99) - According to the enclosed card "Bring the salon home with this eyelash starter kit, complete with eyelashes, adhesive and applicator.  This latex-free glue has a 24-hour hold, for lashes you can bat all day and all night."

I have not yet tried this product.  It is the only product from the box that I have not tried.  I am heading to Foxwoods with some friends in a couple weeks and I am definitely planning on packing these and will do a separate review when I do.

Bath & Body Works® Mini Candle in Black Pepper Bergamot (Retails for $3.50) -"Mini but mighty!  Bath & Body Works Mini Candles provide an amazing fragrance exclusively developed and tested by a team of Home Fragrance experts, including the world's best master perfumers." Also include was a coupon to save $10 on  3-wick Bath & Body Works candle.

I am still on the fence with this scent.  I had smelled it in the store the week prior to receiving this and considered giving it try as it is not anything I would normally buy.  It is a very masculine scent that almost smells like a drugstore men's cologne.  I lit this last night and while I don't exactly hate it, I don't believe I would ever purchase it on my own nor would I probably burn it again.

I do typically like Bath & Body Works candles.  They burn well and are very fragrant.  This scent is just not for me.

EBOOST, Orange (Retails for $28/20 effervescent powders, $39/30 effervescent powders, $39 for 12 shots)- "EBOOST® will boost your mood, focus, and immunity with natural ingredients and no crash.  As a shot or an easy-to-mix powder and in four flavors, you'll feel great whether you choose Orange, Pink Lemonade, Acai Pomegranate, or Super Berry"

If Orange Fanta were flat and watered down, EBOOST would taste just like it only with a really horrible after taste.  I gagged down 4 sips than gave up.  I can't comment on any of the benefits because I didn't drink much.  I am sure some might not mind the taste, but I couldn't stomach it.

Goody ® Simple Styles Spin Pin (Retails for $7.29) - According to the enclosed card "Never have the time for a great updo?  not anymore!  The Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin allows you to easily achieve three chic updo style.  Simply twirl your hair up and spin the two Spin Pins in for a perfect undone bun, side bun or double bun!"

This was surprisingly easy to use and my bun was quite secure.  I typically like a fuller loose bun and this didn't really give me that look.  It would be great for someone that likes a traditional bun.  My only gripe about this product, which is on the end of Influenster and not Goody, is that I received a set for light hair when my hair is a very dark brown.

Not Your Mother's® Kinky Moves TM Curl Defining Hair Cream (Retails for $6.00/4 oz) - "Kinky Moves is infused with natural grape seed and jasmine to encourage natural curls and eliminate frizz and fly-aways"

I can't really say much for this product because I don't have curly hair.  I would have preferred to receive the other Not Your Mother's® product that Influenster was offering, Smooth Moves Frizz Control Hair Cream. That being said, this smells AMAZING!  While I can't use this to shape curls, it did help eliminate the frizz in my hair so I would probably use it again.  My sister has naturally curly hair and said she uses this regularly.  I received a 1.5 oz size of this product.

Vitabath® Fragrance Mist, Citron Leaves (Retails for $12) - "Vitabath presents a new line of lightweight Fragrance Mists in 16 fabulous scents.  This revitalizing, weightless formula is infused with conditioning vitamins and a unique antioxidant blend to keep your skin refreshed and happy.  Smell absolutely delicious with Vitabath!

When I first sprayed this on my skin I could really smell the alcohol in, but as it dried it had a very pleasant scent.  It is not as fragrant as I prefer.  This may be good for someone that does not like perfume but wants a more mature scent then some of the typical body mists.  I prefer perfume and probably won't use this.  I did spray it on my sheets as a linen spray and it smelled nice.
