Birchbox Thank You Gift

Last week I shared my September Birchbox review that I got earlier this month.  The same day that I received my Birchbox, I also received an additional package from Birchbox.

Inside the package was a cute leather pouch keychain in Birchbox pink.  Also enclosed was a small thank you card from being a Birchbox subscriber.  Some blogs and message boards suggested it was an anniversary gift (I have been a Birchbox subscriber for a year in August) while other said they received their keychain at random time.

Did you receive a Birchbox keychain?  If so, was it random or around your birchbox anniversary?

The cutest thing ever!

I don't really know what this is, but I want one!

Bye Bye Endless . . .

One of my favorite websites to purchase shoes, handbags and other accessories is no more.  Effective September 27th, became a part of  I am a little sad to see the site go.

A great deal of my shoe collection came from endless.  They had a great selection and their filters really made is so easy to find exactly what you were looking for. (You could very easily narrow the inventory down to all red wedges with a 2.5-3" heel in a size 10 between $25-$100) They also offered free 2 day shipping on most orders, and overnight shipping for just a few dollars.

While seems to use similar filters on their site, two day shipping is only free for Amazon Prime members (a paid annual service).  True free shipping will take about 5-8 days.

While I am not too familiar with I do find it difficult to find certain items.  For example, if I want to buy a new iPad case, would have listed the few 20-40 cases they had in their inventory while a search for iPad cases on will pull up over 300,000 results.

I am going to miss  I hope I grow to love just as much.

September Birchbox

I got my Birchbox last week.  It came a little later than normal this month, but I have had a chance to try out everything I received.

I received 5 items; BVLGARI Mon Jasmin Noir Perfume, Caudalie Vinexpert Firming Serum, Color Club Nail Polish, Twistband Hair Tie, and The Brush Guard Variety Kit.  Also included a digital download of two tracks from singer/songwriter Tristan Prettyman and a $25 gift card towards a $75 or more at Madewell.  I haven't yet downloaded the tracks (and not sure I will), but will definitely check out Madewell.

BVLGARI Mon Jasmin Noir Perfume The heart of this fragrance, sambac jasmine, is known as an aphrodisiac because of its rich, musky scent. Top notes of lily of the valley lean toward a delicate femininity, but the nougatine and wood base anchor the fragrance and develop a subtle addictive personality. Full size (pictured), $83

I really liked this perfume and have worn it a couple of times already.  The sample is a mini replica of the full size bottle.

Caudalie Vinexpert Firming Serum - It’s a fact of life: as we get older, our once-firm skin begins to lose its elasticity and fine lines start cropping up. Instead of flying into a panic, we’re enlisting Caudalie’s lab-proven anti-aging serum. It’s formulated with grape-based actives and other botanicals that soften the look of wrinkles, plus tightening agents that go to work right away to lift sagging skin. Grape-derived resveratrol is a potent antioxidant that helps reverse the signs of aging by boosting radiance and fading wrinkles, fine lines, and brown spots. Other active ingredients include moisture-boosting ceramides, rose and soy extracts, and energizing ginseng. Full size (pictured), $79

The sample size I received of this was a pretty decent size.  I used this on my neck a couple of times and it smells great and leaves my smooth and firm.

Birchbox and Color Club Custom Collection - Put a Pin In It is a gilded rose gold that brightens any skin tone. Insta-This is a deep cobalt blue, while Status Update is a creamy grey that dries to a glossy finish. Tweet Me is a creamy chartreuse that you’ll want to rave about in 140 characters. Each color looks fabulous alone, or you can mix and match the shades to create eye-catching nail art. Full size (pictured), $8 each

I received the color Status Update.  I have not yet worn it so I can't comment on the formula but I was happy to received this particular color as I don't have any grey polish and would definitely not wear the blue or the yellow.

twistband™ Lace up for Fall - 12 pack - Lace was a fixture on the Fall 2012 runways, and these sweet little numbers take their cue straight from the catwalks. They keep hair secure without snagging strands or leaving ugly creases. This colorful collection comes with twelve ties, so you’ll always have plenty of spares on hand. A Birchbox exclusive you won’t find anywhere else! Each twistband™ is made of soft elastic that keeps braids, buns, and ponytails secured. Because they’re thicker than regular hair ties, they don’t leave crimps in hair.  Set of 6-12, $14-$22

I did not received any of the six colors displayed on Birchbox's listing for this product, nor did I received a lace print, rather the twistband I received was olive green.  I like these style bands.  They are easier on your hair and don't leave any indentation.

The Brush Guard Variety Pack - The cross-stitched plastic guard holds the shape of a makeup brush. It also protects it from dust and dirt. And the snug fit keeps all our favorite tools safe. Try the ¼” for your shadow or liner brushes, and the ⅖” size for blush accents. We like the ¾” guard for foundation brushes, and the 1” for powder or Kabuki brushes to keep your all-over application tools extra clean. Full size (pictured and received), $5.50

I was really excited to receive this product as I had wanted to get a set anyway.  I usually use my Sigma Dry'n Shape when cleaning my brushes, but these guards are a great alternative when just cleaning one or two brushes and would travel much easier.

I really enjoyed my birchbox this month and loved all  the products that I received.  I also just got my Glossybox today and can't wait to dive into the samples.  I LOVE everything in the box!  I hope to post a unboxing/review soon.

Sh*t Girls Say

The YouTube video that started it all is now a book!

Hundreds of people spoofed the video Sh*t Girls Say  after it went viral earlier this year, creating a lot of Sh*t.   Now the video that had over 30 million You Tube views is now hardcover book.

While Amazon doesn't share much of the details of this book, you can take a sneak peak on the books flickr page.  Based on flickr it appears the book is illustrations of the catchy one liners.  For the $10 price tag, I may check it out for a laugh.

Fall Fashion Looks

One of the greatest thing about the Autumn is fall fashion.  Not only are the color palettes gorgeous, but nothing beats a cozy sweater or jacket when the temperature start to dip.

Quote of the Week

Mario Badescu

I have wanted to try Mario Badescu products for years.  As someone with acne-prone skin, I have heard great things about their products, especially their cult-favorite drying lotion.  I was excited to find out that Mario Badescu offers a skin care analysis on their website.  You answer some questions about your skin and they recommend products suited to your skin.  What is better is they then send you samples of some of the recommend products.

Based on my questionnaire, I was recommended 8 products; Collagen Moisturizer, Seaweed Night Cream, Buffering Lotion, Glycolic Acid Toner, Kiwi Face Scrub, Hyaluronic Eye Cream, Enzyme Cleansing Gel, and Cucumber Tonic Mask.  Samples of all of these products were sent to me except the Buffering Lotion.  The product application guide that came with the samples indicated that the sample was not available.   I don't have the size of these samples, but the smaller jars are the same circumference of dollar coin.

My samples came with two guides; Product Application Guide and Product Guide.

The Product Guide (not pictured) gives information on all the products offered by Mario Badescu. The Product Application Guide lists my recommendations and how to apply each of the recommended products.

I received my samples in early August so I have had some time to try each product and decide for myself how I like each one.

Collagen Moisturizer (SPF-15)
Collagen Moisturizer SPF 15 - Ultra-lightweight, daily moisture and moderate sun protection all-in-one. Collagen-rich formula protects skin from moisture loss and keeps skin smooth, plump and healthy without the use of heavy oils. Full-Size (pictured) $22/2oz

I didn't dislike this but I didn't love it enough to purchase either.  It was light-weight enough for my acne-prone skin and did want it was supposed to but it didn't wow me enough to change from my regular moisturizer.

Seaweed Night Cream
Seaweed Night CreamA non-greasy, oil-free night cream enriched with Seaweed, Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid to soften, hydrate and nourish the skin without clogging pores. It leaves the skin feeling soft and silky. Full-Size (pictured) $20/1oz

This made my skin very soft without clogging my pores.  I especially liked it on my neck and may consider purchasing full size.

Glycolic Acid Toner
Glycolic Acid Toner - A Solution For Wrinkles and Pigmentation. Formulated with 2% Glycolic Acid and Grapefruit Extract which work together to exfoliate, refresh and stimulate dry and congested skin. Helps reduce discoloration from old acne scars as well as build-up that can cause skin to look tired and dull. Alcohol free. Full-Size (pictured) $18/8oz

I really loved this toner and ended up buying full sized.  It has evened out my skin tone and helps keep my skin clear.

Kiwi Face Scrub
Kiwi Face Scrub - Made with real Kiwi seeds and soft bits of Seaweed to naturally slough away surface dullness to uncover softer, smoother skin. Kiwi Seeds gently buff away dead skin cells skin while natural AHA’s breakdown dull build-up to prevent blackheads and improve overall texture. Full-Size (pictured) $15/4oz

This would be good for someone with really sensitive skin.  For me, the scrub itself was just not coarse enough.  It smelled AMAZING, but the scrubbing partials are kiwi seeds and I didn't feel there was enough in the scrub to really do anything for me.

Hyaluronic Eye Cream
Hyaluronic Eye Cream - Hyaluronic Acid formula helps lock in the skin’s own natural moisture without the use of heavy, greasy oils. Absorbent, medium weight cream for use day or night. Aloe based formula makes this cream suitable for all skin types, even sensitive.  Full-Size (pictured) $18/0.5oz

I LOVE this eye cream.  I feel like it literally erases the dark circles under my eyes.  I swear I can see them vanishing as I apply. While the sample is small a little goes a long way.

Enzyme Cleansing Gel
Enzyme Cleansing GelOur Best Selling Daily Cleanser. This non-foaming, gel cleanser thoroughly removes the day’s make-up, dirt and oil without drying the skin. Papaya and Grapefruit Extracts are exfoliating Alpha Hydroxy Acids that help prevent dulling build-up that can cause blackheads and pimples. Full-Size (pictured) $12/8oz

I had real high hopes for this cleanser.  I wanted to try it so bad and wanted it to be a miracle product for my skin.  This just didn't work for my skin.  I am sure it is a great product for some but my skin can be very finicky.  I find that products containing benzoyl peroxide work best at keeping my skin clear.

Cucumber Tonic Mask
Cucumber Tonic Mask Purify and tighten pores with this cooling, refreshing, mask. Made with soothing Cucumber Extract and oil absorbing clays. For maintenance on normal, combination and oily skin, this mask keeps skin looking smooth and healthy. Full-Size (pictured) $18/2oz

This is the only product that I received that I have not tried.  I can't get the jar open!!  Once I do I will be sure to use it and review.

My sister also signed up to received her recommended samples.  One of the samples that she received was Drying Cream.  She had no use for it and gave it to me.

Drying Cream
Drying Cream - Acne cream that conceals! Drying Cream is an effective treatment to dry up small under the surface bumps and pimples. Just a few dabs smoothed on the erupted areas prevent pimples from getting larger and spreading out of control. Aloe rich cream conceals and heals erupted pimples.  Full-Size (pictured) $14/0.5oz

I love this product.  I use this at night and sleep with it on and after 2-3 days a pimple is completely gone.  The color is more white so I wouldn't use it to during the day, but I would definitely purchase the full size after the sample is gone.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the products I received from Mario Badescu. When filling out my questionnaire and  receiving my samples I knew I wasn't going to be in love with every product.  Even the products I didn't love, I can see someone with different skin really liking them.   From what I have used, I think Mario Badescu is a great brand that I will absolutely be purchasing from and trying other products in the future.

You can take your skin questionnaire and sign up for your free products samples by visiting Mario Badescu's website  HERE.
